A very small world

averysmallworldDylan: Will we be at Gran Canaria on a weekend?

Mum: Yes – we’re going for two weeks, so we’ll be there for two weekends. Why?

Dylan: Because there’s a girl at KidSize – Keeley – who’s going to Gran Canaria too! Well, she thinks she’s going to Gran Canaria.

Mum: Ah OK, but maybe not at the same time as us.

Dylan: Yes, she is! She’s going on Saturday, so she’ll be there next week.

Mum: Well that’s a coincidence isn’t it?

Dylan: Yes – and It’s great that we’ll be there over a weekend, because me and Keeley are going to meet up at the swimming pool at the weekend. Maybe.

Building dreams
April 29, 2013

buildingdreamsSon: When are you going to get that cracked ceiling fixed?

Mum: I don’t know – it’s not very important at the moment.

Son: It is important – the crack might get bigger and bigger and then the roof might fall down.

Mum: What are you, a builder?

Son: No, silly – I can’t be a builder until I’m an adult. THEN I’m going to be a builder.

Mum: Oh good, you can build me a nice big house, with some lovely big rooms, a shop and somewhere to have a kids club. Then I could work there, and you could be there, too!

Son: No I couldn’t! I’d have to build more houses somewhere else for my job… I could come over at break time though.

Mum: Ah yes, of course – you’ll be all grown up and going to work.

Son: What if I come over in my break and you’re out, so the house is closed and I can’t get in?

Mum: You could have a key, so you can come and go as you want. Can you build me a swimming pool too? That would be nice.

Son: Well, I don’t think that would be a good idea. What if all the children came running out to go to the swimming pool and flattened me, rolled me out like a piece of paper, until all that was left was my hard hat?

Mum: I hadn’t thought of that.

D: Those shapes are the reflection on the top of the water and that’s the man at the top of the ladders. That’s the sun shining through the window, and that’s us swimming – there.

Water world
January 9, 2013

waterworldD: I feel sick because I drank too much in the swimming pool. I don’t like one thing about swimming now, when I think about the water.

Me: You’re not meant to drink the swimming pool, you’re meant to keep your mouth shut when you’re under the water!

D: I did!

Me: So how did you drink the water if you had your mouth shut – did you take a straw in?

D: No… That would be silly!

Me: Perhaps you should have a snorkel next time?

D: Yes – that’s it! That’s a GREAT idea!

Me: Well… Snorkels and masks are for learning to dive, and you can’t learn to dive until you can swim a few lengths of the pool, first.

D: But diving‘s not allowed in the swimming pool.

Me: Diving INTO the water’s not allowed, but I’m talking about diving UNDER the water – sub aqua diving. I used to do that – it was great! There’s a whole different world under the sea – like in Finding Nemo, with all kinds of fishes swimming past.

D: Did you want to see a shark?

Me: Only if it was quite far away.

D: I bet you didn’t want to see a HUMPBACK WHALE? They’re the biggest creature in this world!

Me: Only if they were quite far away too.

D: Are they bigger than the sea?

Me: No – otherwise how would they fit IN the sea?!

D: Oh yes.
