Flower power!
May 6, 2013

flowerpowerSon: We had our pictures taken today and we had a competition! But I didn’t win.

Mum: Oh? What was the competition?

Son: Whoever finds the best flower gets to show it in assembly. I didn’t get the best flower though.

Mum: What flower did you get?

Son: A bluebell.

Mum: I like a bluebell. What were the winning flowers?

Son: A dandelion, which was still yellow, a daisy and a holly leaf which had a berry on it because it was from a cold place. Mine was number 4, so I don’t get to show it. The teacher took my picture with me pretending to ring it like a bell, but it’s only the winners get their pictures printed – only 1, 2 and 3, so my picture didn’t get printed.

Mum: Well I would have chosen a bluebell! I think bluebells are lovely.

Son: Yes, and they REALLY DO ring like a bell – I looked inside and it had a hard ball, like a raisin inside.

Mum: A stamen?

Son: Yes – a stamen – and when I shook it, I listened REALLY hard and I heard a little tinkle!

Purple vision

purplevisionSon: Why does the tree look all purple?

Mum: I don’t know, is it blossom that’s starting to flower?

Son: No, it’s because I didn’t get enough sleep. I’ve got purple eyes.

Singing the Spring Song
April 22, 2013

springsongSon: It’s sunny! And I know why it’s sunny. In singing assembly yesterday we sang the Spring Song, because it wasn’t quite ready and we has to help it. That’s why it’s sunny today!

Warm and toasty in the snow
January 15, 2013

warmtoastyMe: What did you talk about at school today?

D: What’s our favourite weather.

Me: And what’s YOUR favourite weather?

D: Snow… No… Sun.

Me: Why’s that?

D: Because when it’s sunny you get all toasted and you don’t need the heating on. What’s your favourite weather?

Me: I like a bit of snow sometimes and I like a bit of sun sometimes. I don’t much like rain though.

D: No, I don’t like rain. What’s your favourite year?

Me: Do you mean time of year?

D: Yes.

Me: I like ALL of the seasons – they all have something to offer – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Although I don’t much like it when leaves fall off the trees in Autumn and ALL decide to fall into our garden.

D: Do you want to know my favourite season?

Me: Go on.

D: Summer – because it NEVER rains in Summer. It’s sunny EVERY day.

Me: It rains sometimes in Summer – what would happen to all the plants if it didn’t rain?

D: Yes – they’d die…

Seasons putting on a show
October 25, 2012

D: It used to be quite sunny when you put the swimming things away.

Me: Yes, it’s dark now because it’s autumn.

D: Is it winter soon?

Me: In a month or so.

D: Does Halloween come first? And Easter?

Me: Halloween does, Easter’s at the start of spring.

D: Is it the first day of spring?

Me: I don’t know about the first day, but it’s about then – when the bunnies bounce around and the daffodils start to grow.

D: Like a curtain that’s opening for a show…
