D: How old are you?

Me: I can’t remember… 36.

D: I can’t count that high. I can only count to 40. I go up, and then back down again. Up and back down. Up-down.

Me: You’ll be able to count to 36 then – it comes before 40.

D: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… …22, 23, 24 – what comes next?

Me: 25.

D: 25 – what comes next?

Me: 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 – that’s how old I am – and then it’s 37, 38, 39, 40.

D: So you’re nearly 40?

 

Does age matter?

D: It’s boring having adults as my family.
Me: But adults can just be big kids too
D: No they can’t, they’re too big and they need to be 4 or 5 or 6. How old are you?
Me: 36
D: That is old. You’ll be in heaven soon and I’ll have no mummy.
