9th Jan 2014: Fruit Friends for Potluck
Having almost forgotten about this lunchtime’s agreed potluck with some of our lovely PhD people, I ducked out to the shop and bought a few apples and plums (in keeping with my current focus on what I consume, of course). Guest Care Crew happened to have some cocktail stick flags which I deconstructed and, along with the grapes from my packed lunch, used to create these very global Fruit Friends – there just happened to be enough for one each! Contributions from others included Crackers and Hula Hoops – how apt 😉

Of course, toppings are much better cold and added after cooking 🙂

7th Jan 2014: Veggie Spaghetti Castle with a Pea Moat by Becky
Not bad for 573 calories! (All veggies are free calories in my world, so I have a comprehensive moat.)

TASTE TEST

Mum: I think those pellets might be a bit big for the fish to eat – maybe it would be better to give them the flakes instead.

Boy: I know! We could give them half pellets, half flakes and see which ones they like best!

Mum: Ah – like a taste test?

Boy: Yes! And if they like both, then we can carry on giving them half pellets and half flakes next time.

HEALTHY STUFF
“I can see healthy stuff.”
Age 5

It’s our kitchen. That’s the floor, with all of the tiles [along the bottom] and they’re the vegetables on the table.
They’re to remind me I need to have 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day.
The long, sticky thing’s a cucumber; the pointy thing with a bush on top is a carrot; and the bushy thing with a stalk? Broccoli.

Muscley hair
October 27, 2012

Me: You haven’t eaten very much and you haven’t drank your milk – where are you going to get your strength?

D: What’s ‘strength’?

Me: [Does an impression of a strong man.] Strong – you know what strong is.

D: OK, I’ll have some milk – warm though.

Me: Good.

D: Mum, does hair have muscles?

Me: No, but you can still have strong hair. Strong means it won’t break easily.
