ART BOOK COVER

There’s all the things I liked drawing best at Art Club this term: There’s the peacock [top left]; they’re the Russian dolls [centre]; there’s the sun and the mountains; they’re all the children at school; that’s the hand with all the decorations on it; that’s a turtle [in red and green] and that’s the Egyptian writing [bottom right].

Africa – January 2013
D: I was drawing them at Vikki’s and I thought – I’ll cut out a cactus out for my mum. And then I thought I’ll cut the others out for my dad and Nanny and Grandpa when I go there tomorrow.

Me: That’s nice. Why were you drawing trees and cacti?

D: I was drawing Africa – Africa’s got lots of trees and cactuses.

Me: Did you draw anything else in the picture of Africa, other than trees and cacti?

D: Yes, and some water – the water was in the shape of Africa.

Me: This shape here, on this globe?

D: That’s not Africa – it’s got lots of different coloured shapes in it.

Me: That’s because they’re all countries and Africa is a continent.

D: What’s a continent?

Me: It’s a group of countries.

D: Oh. Oops – no. I did the water round, like that, with a bumpy bit there [draws it in the air] – I just made it up!

Appearances can be deceptive

D: One day at school there was a monster smashing up all the cars. It was after the fun had happened.
We were all sitting round in a circle, seeing what words were called out and getting them to say what they were. My one was saying what portrait and landscape was, and Jaimie said it before me. I said to Miss Draisy that I was about to say that, and she went to the medal cupboard and I got a medal.

After that there was a HUGE monster outside – it’s got you in this bit – it was smashing up ALL the cars. It wasn’t going to smash OUR car though.

Then it turned into a little animal – a cute little monkey. I went to check our car and it wasn’t smashed up. I went to see the monkey – I thought he was eating our car, so I went to pull him off, but he wasn’t, he was kissing it!

Then he went off with his monkey mum he said “Bye bye!” And I said “Bye bye!” Back.

Landscape rainbow – paint and metallic / non-metallic pens, Sept 2012

D: It’s a rainbow, but in ‘skate’ [landscape] instead of portrait.
