Creating jobs

creatingjobsD: What does ‘redundant‘ mean?

Me: It means that someone’s job got taken away – that the place they work for says they don’t need that person any more. It’s not very nice.

D: Why isn’t it nice?

Me: Well, it’s not very nice to find out that someone thinks you’re not useful is it? One of my friends was made redundant twice in a very short space of time. She was made redundant once, then went to work for another company, then they took all her ideas and made her redundant again! It was a bit naughty of them really.

D: What did she do?

Me: She started up her own business.

D: That’s good – then, when the other people who made her redundant come and ask her for a job, she can say “No!”

Watching versus doing

watchingvdoingD: Mum, you shouldn’t watch too much TV, should you?

Me: No – your eyes might go square.

D: But that’s just a legend isn’t it? It’s not really real is it? It’s a LEGEND.

Me: What do you think will happen if you watch too much TV then?

D: Nothing. Your eyes will just go round like they already are.

Me: Well, perhaps you’re right – but your brain might stop working properly if you watch too much TV.

D: Why?

Me: You might stop having ideas. When do you have YOUR best ideas?

D: When something’s gone wrong and I need to think of a way to fix it, so it doesn’t go wrong again.

Me: OK, and do you ever have those good ideas whilst you’re watching the telly?

D: No, because when I watch the telly I switch my brain off.

Me: So if you watch the telly TOO MUCH, you’d stop actually DOING things and your brain wouldn’t need to come up with as many good ideas.

D: Yes, my brain would just be switched off all the time and I would just say “erm, erm, erm” all day long and even at my birthday party I would still be going “erm, erm, erm…”!

Blue God

Diwali, Festival of Light – Nov 2012

D: It’s what we’re learning about at school. It’s a God thing.

Me: What sort of God thing?

D: I can’t remember – it starts with ‘V’. [Diwali]

Me: Who is it a picture of?

D: I copied it from a picture that had lots of gods in it. It’s the blue one. I can’t remember which one he’s called… [Krishna]

Heroic trampolining wolf

Little Wolf on the Moon – Sept 2012

D: A little wolf is stuck on the moon, so the big wolf has an idea and jumps on that colourful trampoline [in orange, grey, yellow and green] and goes up and catches Little Wolf in his hand. He comes back down and lands on another trampoline which can tell when he’s coming and turns into a nice, soft, grassy landing. And it’s a wolf machine – that’s the wolf, there – with the green eyes. All the other wolves are just chasing sheep. I wrote ‘trampoline’ on it.

Sandwiches and trampolines
August 5, 2012

D: What does that say?
Me: The Marketer, it’s what I do at work – I’m a marketer.
D: What’s a Marketer?
Me: A marketer helps to sell things to people. In my job, I help to sell information and ideas to people.
D: What kind of ideas? Like an idea of a trampoline? Or a sandwich?
