Dylan’s been selected for Philosophy Club – an elite club of eight 7yr old classmates lol!

D’s teacher: “They go out for an hour on Tuesday afternoons and have a think – they think through things by using drama and art.”

D: “We go out for the whole afternoon on a Tuesday for fun and games. We think about thinking.”

My work colleague: “That’s a new way to do detentions!”

Day 9: Fruit Friends for Potluck

9th Jan 2014: Fruit Friends for Potluck
Having almost forgotten about this lunchtime’s agreed potluck with some of our lovely PhD people, I ducked out to the shop and bought a few apples and plums (in keeping with my current focus on what I consume, of course). Guest Care Crew happened to have some cocktail stick flags which I deconstructed and, along with the grapes from my packed lunch, used to create these very global Fruit Friends – there just happened to be enough for one each! Contributions from others included Crackers and Hula Hoops – how apt 😉

A very small world

averysmallworldDylan: Will we be at Gran Canaria on a weekend?

Mum: Yes – we’re going for two weeks, so we’ll be there for two weekends. Why?

Dylan: Because there’s a girl at KidSize – Keeley – who’s going to Gran Canaria too! Well, she thinks she’s going to Gran Canaria.

Mum: Ah OK, but maybe not at the same time as us.

Dylan: Yes, she is! She’s going on Saturday, so she’ll be there next week.

Mum: Well that’s a coincidence isn’t it?

Dylan: Yes – and It’s great that we’ll be there over a weekend, because me and Keeley are going to meet up at the swimming pool at the weekend. Maybe.

SHAGGY AND SCOOBY DOO

It’s Scooby Doo and that’s his best friend, Shaggy. I couldn’t remember what colour top Shaggy has, so I coloured it black.

Just good friends

justgoodfrSon: You know when you make a swan with your hand? [Bends his wrist and elbow to make the shape of a swan’s head and neck.]

Mum: Yes.

Son: Well when you do it with both hands and then put them together it makes a heart

Mum: It does, doesn’t it?

Son: Yeah – I did that to Lucy today.

Mum: Ah! What did Lucy say?

Son: She said “Oh, that’s really nice!” Me and Lucy are sort of friends, but not boyfriend and girlfriend.

Mum: Just good friends?

Son: Yeah, good friends.

Forgotten friend
January 11, 2013

forgottenfriendMe: What did you drink at school today?

D: Water.

Me: Oh yes, we need to send you in with your water bottle.

D: Yes, because Mrs C. gave me my water bottle and I said that’s not my water bottle – it’s different!
And she said, “Why?” But before I could say anything she turned it around a said, “Oh yes, because it’s Liam’s!” Do you know Liam?

Me: No.

D: He’s my bestest friend – I haven’t played with him for AGES because it was the holidays… I didn’t even play with him today – I forgot.

Being a good friend

Anti-Bullying Week : Being a good friend – Nov 2012

D: That’s a bad friend [left], they’re sticking their tongue out when I’ve said “Can I play a game with you?” and they’ve said “No you can’t!”
And that’s me [right] – I cry and say “Hey!”

Getting the runaround
November 6, 2012

Me: Do you still play with Liam at school?

D: Oh. He forgot! I tried to remind him, but he’s a faster runner than me!

Me: So who did you play with today?

D: No-one, I just ran around on my own – round and round.
