For the past three weeks in Design & Technology club, the children’s challenge has been to design and make a scooter. Of course, Dylan decided he wanted to make one that was also a stringed instrument. Apparently it took most of the first session to explain it to the teacher, and convince her that it WOULD fulfil the brief and be a scooter.
It actually looks a bit like a Segway…

ART BOOK COVER
There’s all the things I liked drawing best at Art Club this term: There’s the peacock [top left]; they’re the Russian dolls [centre]; there’s the sun and the mountains; they’re all the children at school; that’s the hand with all the decorations on it; that’s a turtle [in red and green] and that’s the Egyptian writing [bottom right].

BOOK OF DREAMS – Age 5
Son: It’s about a boy who dreams about being a spaceman. That picture on the cover’s the world. That yellow picture is the boy in bed – there’s the ladders. I know – it looks flat.
Mum: Why has he got 8 arms & legs?
Son: They’re not arms and legs! They’re on the bed – under the covers. They hold the bed up, otherwise why would he need the ladders?
Mum: Ah! Of course. What’s the story then?
Son: Once upon a time there lived a boy, he lived with his mummy and daddy. I was going to do it in chapters, then then I didn’t have time. Chapter 2 is when he had his dream and Chapter 1 is just telling you what’s first.

Precarious poppies
November 11, 2012
D: I had two poppies today – number 1 fell off.
Me: Did they tape it on at school?
D: Yes – THEN what happened was Coach Kim fixed it. Then it fell off again and I left it on the shelf in the cloakroom. When I got back to Vikki’s, Hermione gave me one for free!

Design for thank you card following 5th birthday, July 2012
D: That’s me, in the middle with a red top on. That’s the big sign that says it’s my birthday [top left], that’s you with your long hair [me – top right], that’s dad, holding lots and lots of balloons [in blue], that’s the stall with all my presents on, and a bag for the presents [bottom right]. There’s Uncle Ian with my cake [in green with the spiky hair], that’s Finn [in red and green], Danny [in yellow then coloured over with blue to make green], Daniel [in red] and Aidan [with half red, half blue hair]. They’re the crazy scientists [on the left in yellow and blue]. There’s some multi-coloured lights [all around] and there’s some more customers [now appears to have turned into a shop…]
