Dylan managed to read 22 books (1 of which he wrote himself!) during last week’s sponsored read, in aid of refurbishment of the school library (to involve self-service shelving units, new books and possibly some digging facilities). Thank you to his school, his childminder and his sponsors (you know who you are – Dylan has received every message XXX).

Day 30: Creating as well as consuming
January 30, 2014
30th Jan 2014: Dylan’s first (illustrated) book – Vernie the Penguin
Dylan was asked by his school teacher to improve on his two sentences about a polar bear who couldn’t find anything to eat and then saw some food (which apparently didn’t make sense), so he wrote his own book… Which was handy, as he then got to read it for this week’s Sponsored Read – he even got to write a (totally unbiased) review of it on his reading log!

Day 29: A sting in the tail
January 29, 2014
29th Jan 2014: Steve the Scorpion
29th Jan 2014: Sam the Scorpion
In today’s Art + Board Games + Sharing Club we drew Sam and Steve the scorpions and their pedipalps (pincers) – thanks to our new ‘Draw Really Cool Stuff’ book by Doug DuBosque. Dylan then excavated the final 2 dinosaurs from a block of plaster so that we could progress to the accompanying ‘Dinosaur World’ board game.

Day 27: Brilliant books
January 27, 2014
27th Jan 2014: Brilliant books
In preparation for this week’s Sponsored Read in aid of the school library, we’ve stocked up on a few books from the local Willen Hospice second-hand book shop. Between school, childminder’s and home, the goal is at least 20 books between today and the end of Sunday – a doddle!
I wonder what we can do with the books once they’ve been read? Hmmmm…

Day 8: Operation Hopscotch
January 8, 2014
8th Jan 2014: Operation Hopscotch
I didn’t manage to get outside much today – too busy with our Toastmasters Club meeting and collecting a 2nd hand Amp so I can play my EWI – Electronic Wind Instrument – again (the last amp has a disconnected plug stuck in the input socket due to an accident involving a microphone, a small child and temporary loss of balance). So here’s a humorously healthy picture, courtesy of Miranda Hart – highly relevant and with which I agree wholeheartedly 🙂 I believe it’s even zoom-able…

ART BOOK COVER
There’s all the things I liked drawing best at Art Club this term: There’s the peacock [top left]; they’re the Russian dolls [centre]; there’s the sun and the mountains; they’re all the children at school; that’s the hand with all the decorations on it; that’s a turtle [in red and green] and that’s the Egyptian writing [bottom right].

That’s my bed and that’s the ladders. There’s George’s Marvellous Medicine on top of the covers. I can’t WAIT to read it!

BOOK OF DREAMS – Age 5
Son: It’s about a boy who dreams about being a spaceman. That picture on the cover’s the world. That yellow picture is the boy in bed – there’s the ladders. I know – it looks flat.
Mum: Why has he got 8 arms & legs?
Son: They’re not arms and legs! They’re on the bed – under the covers. They hold the bed up, otherwise why would he need the ladders?
Mum: Ah! Of course. What’s the story then?
Son: Once upon a time there lived a boy, he lived with his mummy and daddy. I was going to do it in chapters, then then I didn’t have time. Chapter 2 is when he had his dream and Chapter 1 is just telling you what’s first.
