Son: We had our pictures taken today and we had a competition! But I didn’t win.
Mum: Oh? What was the competition?
Son: Whoever finds the best flower gets to show it in assembly. I didn’t get the best flower though.
Mum: What flower did you get?
Son: A bluebell.
Mum: I like a bluebell. What were the winning flowers?
Son: A dandelion, which was still yellow, a daisy and a holly leaf which had a berry on it because it was from a cold place. Mine was number 4, so I don’t get to show it. The teacher took my picture with me pretending to ring it like a bell, but it’s only the winners get their pictures printed – only 1, 2 and 3, so my picture didn’t get printed.
Mum: Well I would have chosen a bluebell! I think bluebells are lovely.
Son: Yes, and they REALLY DO ring like a bell – I looked inside and it had a hard ball, like a raisin inside.
Mum: A stamen?
Son: Yes – a stamen – and when I shook it, I listened REALLY hard and I heard a little tinkle!
