D: My eyebrow is all scratchy and it hurts.
Me: Looks like you’ve got a midge bite – the wet weather’s brought lots of midges out.
D: What’s a midge bite?
Me: A midge is a type of fly that buzzes and bites – it lands on you and its bite is like a tiny injection – it sucks blood out of you, and makes you all itchy.
D: What does it DO with the blood?
Me: Nothing, it’s just a blood-sucker – it just flies around with your blood in it.
D: What will happen if ALL the flies come along and suck out ALL of my blood?
Me: That won’t happen – you’re way bigger than them and your body will know some blood has been taken and make some more.
D: HOW does it make more blood?
Me: It’s just clever like that…
D: Is there a machine that makes blood inside my body?
Me: Your body is a machine.
D: But that would make us robots… Am I a robot?
